The Danger of Angel Worship
The supremacy of Christ over angels reveals fundamental truths about His divine nature and authority that every believer must understand. Angels, though powerful spiritual beings created by God, served as intermediaries between God and humanity throughout biblical history. They delivered God's law to Moses, protected Israel, and carried out divine judgment with incredible power. The Jewish people rightfully held angels in high esteem, but this reverence sometimes created confusion when they began following Christ.
Christ's superiority manifests in multiple ways that demonstrate His divine nature. He possesses a more excellent name than any angel, with the Father uniquely calling Him "Son." Angels worship Christ, as seen in Revelation where countless heavenly beings declare His worthiness. Rather than serving alongside angels, Christ commands them as their Creator and director. His throne is established forever in righteousness, confirming His deity and eternal rule. While creation itself will pass away like an old garment, Christ remains permanent and unchanging.
Today, angels continue serving as ministering spirits sent to care for and protect believers, but all glory for their work belongs to Christ. We must avoid worshiping angels or placing anything above Christ's supreme authority. Understanding His superiority should transform our worship, helping us confess His righteousness even during difficult circumstances and recognize His control over all spiritual forces, including Satan who remains a created being under Christ's authority.
